What?

Block printing is one of the earliest and simplest forms of textile printing. The earliest surviving examples from China date to before 220 AD.This process involves sketching and carving a design into a block of wood which is then hand carved with immense precision. This block is then stamped on fabric with the help of an ink or dye with repetition to create beautiful designs and patterns.

Where?

We will take you the old town of Bagru which is 25 kms from Jaipur and will take 45 mins drive to reach. It has for years earned a reputation for Block Printing and the special mud printing.

How?

Meet our expert guide at a mutually decided spot in Jaipur city or we can come to your hotel / venue to pick you up and start the day. We will drive for 45mins to Bagru and on the way our expert will explain you all the history of the craft as well as the importance that it holds for the locals. Arrive Bagru and you will be taken on a walking tour of the village. You will see small houses and how all of them contribute to this art form. You will see washing, dying, mud printing, colouring by natural dyes and learn the intricate process yourself. We will then take you to the house of an expert who has been in business for 5 generations. He will conduct a proper workshop helping and teaching you the art of block printing and will show you the basics of block printing and guide you through the technique. You will be given a stole or a handkerchief to try your skills on. You can also bring a little fabric of your own if you wish.

After the workshop you will be offered high tea with an interactive and learning session with the expert. While on the tour you can interact with the artisans and get a deeper understanding on their craft. Once the workshop is over we can also take you to visit a small textile museum called Titanwala to see some old crafted blocks and fine work. Drive back to Jaipur city once all done.
